– “Through ACCME-accredited activity, Jaseng Hospital will help the development of the continuing medical education system in Korea”
Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine was accredited as a CME provider by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME). ACCME is a non-profit organization that establishes and maintains continuing medical education (CME) standards. ACCME-accreditation motivates educators to achieve their full potential and enhance physician education, such as knowledge acquisition and medical technology of the physicians in the US.
After two years of provisional accreditation granted as a new CME provider, Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine will apply for reaccreditation to be eligible for full accreditation. Because of this accreditation, Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine will be able to implement various types of CME for American physicians. Jaseng hopes that this attainment of ACCME accreditation will lead to a ‘Medical Korean Wave’ in the US by implementing curricula highlighting various Korean medicine theories such as Jaseng’s non-invasive treatment method.
Having previously undergone rigorous accreditation processes like this one, Jaseng is confident that the CME program will continue to meet the ACCME standards and be competitive with the most impressive programs. It is unusual that the CME of an integrative hospital in Korea would be accredited, emphasizing Jaseng’s excellence.
There are currently more than 1,800 CME providers accredited by ACCME. ACCME provides US physicians with about 15,900 CME programs and around one million hours of education each year. Despite the plethora of providers and programs, only five international CME providers have previously been accredited. Jaseng’s accreditation is the first in Korea, allowing Jaseng to expand its influence and knowledge to American physicians.
In recent years, the voices that we need to strengthen the capacity of medical staff and improve the quality of medical services getting more strength in Korea. For example, medical associations in Korea visited ACCME to examine the continuing medical education system in the US and continue to look for the ways to find a complementary point for the continuing education in Korea. As the first ACCME-accredited CME provider in Korea, Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine will directly experience the advanced CME system in the US and try to look for a way to actually help the development of medical staff in Korea.
“After a long period of preparation, Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine was accredited as a new CME provider by ACCME. This accreditation will focus on developing quality of continuing remedial education programs to improve the capacity of US physicians,” says Dr. Joon Shik Shin, founder of Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine.” It is especially encouraging that the non-invasive treatment of Jaseng Hospital of Korea Medicine has been adopted for the growth of US physicians. Jaseng Hospital of Korea Medicine will continue to strive to develop a global competence of Korean medicine and to have a positive impact on the development of the lifelong education system in the Korean medical community through this experience.”
